Final Mix is the process of taking a finished edit into the audio studio, and, depending on what kind of edit it is, this is where all the audio levels are adjusted to the correct volume, voice over is cleaned up and sound effects are added, etc.

 

It is technically the last step in the production stage before export and delivery.
